Laurent Dissard specializes in Heritage, Memory, and Museum Studies, with a particular focus on Turkey and the Middle East. He received his PhD in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania and a Junior Research Fellowship from the Institute of Advanced Studies of University College London.
He has taught courses at Berkeley, Penn, UCL, Santa Monica College, Koç University in Istanbul, and the Universities of Pau and Toulouse in France on the Anthropology, Archaeology, and History of Turkey and the Middle East, as well as Heritage and Conflicts, Memory and Museums, Postcolonial Studies and Orientalism.
He is an associate researcher at the Center for Turkish, Ottoman, Balkan, and Central Asian Studies (CETOBaC, UMR 8032, CNRS) of the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris, and has written several Horizon Europe research projects (incl. RIAs, ERCs, MSCAs) across the Social Sciences and the Humanities with a particular focus on Heritage, Memory, and Museum Studies.
